Spaces in the city – traditions of sport and social work

By means of an example - the estate 'Brumleby' and the football club 'Skjold' - the article thematizes urban planning in Copenhagen in the 20th century and the ways of life the planning stages. The example or perhaps better the case makes the first part of the article and additionally its empirical base, including a certain residential area, an athletic association and a social community characterized by a considerable political importance for a community in a capital. This first part is primarily a description.
The second part is an analytical approach in which the authors present various viewpoints and approaches to the case. Analytically, we draw upon social pedagogy and political traditions (self-management and civil society). We make use of a number of concepts and methods which are transformed in order to show how formation, civilizing and socialization are influenced by social staging, and how we can understand the importance of social staging to-day.
The intention of this contribution is to point out elements of a new thinking of the relationship of sport and social pedagogy.
